The Freshman Fifteen. . or Twenty-Five. . .

Many of us students have noticed fluctuations in our body weight since we started. Some of my friends are telling me they are running out of pants that fit, and that this time around the weight gain is more dramatic than the undergrad "freshman fifteen." This is no surprise, with all the free food and soda pop being offered, and stress eating, reduced physical activity, et cetera. However, others are losing weight, walking around with their pants practically falling off. Again no suprise, what with stress, or lack of time or money for decent meals, or increased physical activity.

I rarely complain about my body shape because I find vanity (especially obsessing and fretting) both selfish and petty. However, I must admit that I'm dissatisfied with my current shape.

Daily bike rides uphill with 40 pound of books in the basket has caused my posterior to become lean and hard. Meanwhile, seven hours a day of sitting in classes (in addition to aforementioned pizza and soda) has made my abdominal area quite. . .voluptuous.

I don't care about the way this looks, because no one cares or sees this, but think about comfort for a moment . . .If you spent a third of your life sitting in hard, undersized, unpadded lecture hall seats, would you want your butt to be hard or soft? I definitely prefer more padding back there. Also, when I sit down, this little roll of fat tumbles off my stomach (seemingly out of nowhere) and rests in my lap and gets pinched by the waist of my pants. It's ANNOYING, I tell you.

If I could have it my way, I would have a flat stomach so I could sit any way I want without my pants pinching, and I'd have a soft, juicy bottom to rest on.

But no.

So now I have to buy new pants and a portable seat cushion, dammit.
