Cartman is So Coool

A little orphaned American Golfinch came into the Wildlife Medical Clinic Monday. He must be imprinted on people (thinking we are his mommies and daddies) because he'll just sit on your finger and eat out of your hand. Surprisingly, he's being fed prescription dog food (Hill's Science Diet p/d), but I guess that makes sense since Goldfinches normally eat worms, grubs and grains. Meat is meat, right?

Anyway, this guy loves to eat eat eat, and he's just a baby so he barely has any tail feathers. He's so friendly--last night he jumped from person to person, from a finger, to a hood, then to my collar. He sings and chirps and is a very energetic little guy. He's so cool that his team named him "Cartman". . .apparently the character from South Park calls himslef "cool" all the time.

He may have been someone's pet that got loose, or the people found him may have kept him a few days and fed him before bringing him in. I'm trying to make excuses that he's so strongly imprinted that he won't survive in the wild. . that way the rehabber can't take him away from us. . . or maybe we can fake his death so we could take him home. . .
