Meet the Faculty: Gross Anatomy
Dr. Antony Oluoch ("Ahl-watch")
You'll have to pardon the blurryness--this guy can't stand still for a photo. He actually did not approve of me taking a side view portrait of him ("I don't like the shape of my head"), so this was my second attempt at a candid shot.
Dr. O has been in the U.S. for 12 years now, and at UI since 1998. Before that he was at Saskatchewan (Canada) and before
that he was in Nairobi. So he has a super cool accent.
His lectures are very thorough (i.e.
exhausting) and he always relates information to clinical applications such as injuries, surgical techniques, etc. He's a ton of fun in lab--he loves teaching so much that he gets all excited when we come to the lab after hours. He'll stay in the lab with students until 9:30 at night. He has a habit of calling everything on a cadaver "beautiful": "That's such a beautiful example of the medial nerve running through the supratroclear foramen". . ."What a beautiful dissection. . ." complete with oohs and ahhs. He gets so enthused sometimes he jumps up and down a little and calls all the students to "come over and take a look at this beautiful specimen."
