Here's the update:
I haven't posted in a while because I've been preoccupied preparing an outdoor education workshop for a local child care organization. I'm used to doing workshops that last four to six hours, for folks who teach 8 to 12 year-olds, so I had to revamp my methods to create a two hour workshop for people who teach 1 to 5 year-olds. But It was fun--I presented it Tuesday and it went over well.
I found out this child care organization has a branch down in Champaign, which is great since I already have a few different workshops already prepared. I can present a two or four hour workshop on a Saturday for part-ime work. At $50 an hour, hopefully this can help pay for some school expenses.
My short-lived obsession with the VetEd Tablet has come to its end; once I saw what hardware was included I realized I could get a faster laptop for a lot less. I don't need all the fancy software, and the stuff I do need is available in affordable form on cd-rom.
My new obsession is the book
Deadly Feasts by
Richard Rhodes. I bought a copy of it (published in 1998) at
Book Muse for $2. I’ve been somewhat obsessed with prions since I saw a great PBS documentary about them back in 1997.
Here's
The Onion's review. I agree and disagree.
I plan to present a review of my own in the coming weeks--after I finish working on a bunch of little scholarship essays that are due this month.
I just unloaded about a grand on textbooks, microscope rental and class notes. I'll definitely need to do some of those workshops throughout the school year.
